Hello
My name is Shannon Gaylord
Pronouns: she/her/hers
Born and raised in NC, I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for my Masters in Social Work. I have a background in psychology and am frequently researching the latest evidence based treatments and learning new therapeutic skills. I worked in community mental health for years doing outpatient therapy and developing and implementing Dialectical Behavior Therapy programs. Now, I specialize in working with people with chronic pain and illness, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), trauma, and life transitions. I have many clients who are undergraduate and graduate students in the triangle area.
I work closely with my clients to develop individualized treatment plans that move them towards and past their identified goals. I value people’s commitment to healing and changing aspects of their lives. I strive to make sure that people are challenged and comfortable in therapy. I believe in people’s strength and ability to unlearn ineffective behavior patterns, change cognitions, and reconnect their bodies and minds through mindfulness. My therapeutic work draws from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS).
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS). I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Addiction Professionals of North Carolina (APNC), and the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC).
When I am not at work, I am usually traveling across NC exploring waterfalls, hiking along the Blue Ridge, or practicing wildlife photography. I love hanging out with my two sweet kitties, Hobbes and Yanni.
